From Lekeitio to Guernica to Gaztelugatxe to Bilbao

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]What an amazing day- with the weather forecast being very pessimistic we finally were rewarded with sun, amazing food, a great hike and a mini spa treatment:
From Lekeitio we drove to Guernica, and parked right next to the ceramic replica of Picasso’s painting. Had a stroll around the town, surprisingly amazing lunch in the restaurant 1000 Azules (Pablo Picasso, 7, 48300 Bilbao). The sun came out and we drove to Gaztelugatxe: Gaztelugatxe is an islet on the coast of Biscay. It is connected to the mainland by a man-made bridge. On top of the island stands a hermitage (named Gaztelugatxeko Doniene in Basque; San Juan de Gaztelugatxe in Spanish), dedicated to John the Baptist, that dates from the 10th century, although discoveries indicate that the date might be the 9th century.
It was a bit of a hike to get down and up and down and up again, but every step was worth the sweat. Not many people were around and the views were stunning.
After a pitstop with dip in the Atlantic we made our way to Bilbao.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text tooltip_color=”color1″ tooltip_text_color=”color3″]
